Our Journey: 1998 to Today

Our story began in 1998, when we opened our doors as Wilson & Co — a family-run business built on simple values: look after people, work hard, and always do the right thing. Over the years, those values helped us grow, earn trust, and become a familiar name in our communities.

In 2013, we expanded our family by acquiring Drayton Motors. From that moment, we have proudly operated two brands, side by side, with the same leadership, the same teams, and the same commitment to customer care.

For more than a decade, Wilson & Co and Drayton Motors have shared the same values and the only difference has been the door. From April 2026 that will change and all ten dealerships will operate as Drayton Motors.

About Wilson and Co

It was in March 1998 that Robin Wilson opened the doors to his very first dealership. After many years working within the motor trade, Robin was approached by Vauxhall to take over the dealership in Scunthorpe — and on that day, Wilson & Co Motor Sales was born.

What started as a single site with a small, dedicated team quickly grew into a trusted, family-run dealership group. Over the years, the Wilson & Co name has proudly represented Vauxhall, as well as Saab and Chevrolet, building a reputation for honesty, care, and community.

Our growth continued with dealerships in Grimsby and Immingham and then in 2004, when we expanded into Bolton and Chorley, bringing the Wilson & Co spirit to Lancashire. The business evolved again as new brands joined the family — most recently Peugeot at our Grimsby and Bolton sites, and in 2026, BYD at our flagship Manchester Road dealership in Bolton.

From one site in Scunthorpe to a multi-brand, multi-location group, our journey has always been driven by the same values: people first, service always, and a commitment to doing things the right way. We call it driving excellence.

Our photo captures a moment in 2000 - at Grimsby, showing Robin Wilson, Founder, alongside Chris Roberts. At the time, Chris worked in Network Development for Vauxhall Motors, supporting Robin as he took his first steps in building what would become the Wilson & Co dealership group.

Chris’s career later took him across the world with General Motors, gaining extensive experience across global markets. After returning to the UK, he and Robin reconnected — and two years ago, Chris joined the business. Today, he proudly serves as Managing Director of Drayton Motors, helping to lead the group into its next chapter.

About Drayton Motors

Following the success of Wilson & Co, Robin Wilson expanded the business in 2013, cutting the ribbon on his first Kia dealership in Boston. Under the Drayton Motors name, the site quickly built a loyal customer base and a reputation for outstanding service — values that mirrored those of Wilson & Co from day one.

The Drayton Motors Kia brand grew rapidly. It soon extended to Louth, and in 2021, the group acquired Victor Wood Kia in Grantham, further strengthening its presence across Lincolnshire. In 2022, Drayton Motors also welcomed Kia Scunthorpe into the family, bringing the brand back to where the Wilson & Co story first began.

Alongside Kia, Drayton Motors is also home to the long-standing, award-winning Suzuki dealership in Boston — formerly known as Cropleys Suzuki — continuing its legacy under the Drayton Motors banner.

More recently, the group has expanded into exciting new brands. Omoda | Jaecoo joined our dealerships in Louth and Grantham, marking a significant step in our growth. And in 2026, BYD became part of the Drayton Motors family, offering customers even more choice with one of the world’s fastest-growing electric vehicle manufacturers.

From a single site to a multi-brand, multi-location group, Drayton Motors continues to grow with the same commitment to quality, service, and community that has shaped our journey from the very beginning.
